Whenever Vince McMahon finds something hilarious, he like a child who doesn't understand humour and endlessly repeats the same joke. It might have made you laugh at first, but now you hate it.

Likewise, the 2021 women's Royal Rumble match called back to 2020, as Reginald Thomas assisted (although not very well) a revamped Carmella throughout the bout and prevented her from elimination. The moment might have meant to be more irksome than humorous. Even so, it wasn't even bad enough to be funny.

On the other hand, the live crowd popped whenever Otis materialized in the middle of the 2020 women's Rumble to spare his crush, Mandy Rose, from early elimination. Whereas the Carmella-Reginald interactions fell a bit flat, Rose and Otis had natural chemistry between themselves and an ongoing storyline.

Regardless, there seemed to be an unassigned intergender assist role that desperately needed to be filled in for each Rumble. All fans can do is hope 2020 and 2021 were coincidences and not signs of another by-the-numbers trope. Like many other creative devices, the intergender saves can provide great entertainment, but only when executed (well) in moderation.
