This is goosebumps-inducing.

Cody was underneath the stage ready to come up for his entrance at WrestleMania 39 when he felt Dusty’s presence beside him. Not only that, but Rhodes told Stephanie he “felt his hand, and could smell him - it was a whole sensory overload”. Fast forward to the same spot at ‘Mania 40 and Cody couldn’t feel his father there. Explaining, he added: “In my mind, it’s because he knew I had it”.

Here's where things get even spookier. Steph told Cody that Dusty was there at ‘Mania 39 because she could feel him too. She didn’t even know about Cody’s own experience before his match. It was a completely separate conversation. It turns out a couple of people could feel the legend's presence during a banner evening for the entire Rhodes family.

There's a real cool piece of footage on Stephanie's Places that shows Cody looking rather thoughtful. He's beneath the stage waiting for his main event vs. Roman Reigns, but his eyes are darting around from side to side. Trying to refocus on the task at hand when he knew that his father was right there with him, and literally felt a hand, had to be rather challenging.

Cody wasn't scared, of course. He was buoyed by his dad's presence. It is, however, interesting that Dusty's spirit didn't show up for the following year's 'Mania 40. Rhodes likes to believe that his father knew his son had things well in hand and was about to make him proud.
