8 Things We Learned From WWE Creation And Destruction: Triple H's Road To WrestleMania

The Game has more hats than a milliner on Royal Ascot weekend.

Over WrestleMania weekend this year, Triple H must have wished his name was literally true. So multifarious were the WWE's Executive Vice President's duties across an absolutely hectic 72 hours that they should reasonably have been handled by a trio of people. But nope: indefatigable Paul hauled his three 'haitches' across the length of America, switching roles on the fly like Clark Kent escaping spies as he conducted crucial business at each and every one of his company's key engagements.

Whilst he was already swamped with work, Hunter also had a camera crew swarming around him like midges on a mafting summer's day, tracking his every move for the purpose of a Network documentary released this weekend - the oddly titled 'Creation and Destruction: Triple H's Road to WrestleMania'.

Though the feature advertises itself as a look at The Game's preparation for his huge New Jersey match with Batista, the ostensible main event is barely touched upon - we don't see Big Dave once. Rather, we're privy to Triple H the executive, Triple H the producer, and Triple H the mentor, as he pulls seemingly every backstage string across WWE's biggest weekend.

Obviously, it's as stage-managed as ever, but a few interesting inferences emerged from Hunter's Odyssey.

8. Triple H Didn't Want Match With Batista To "Suck"

After graciously taking time to meet a devoted fan as part of WWE's Make-A-Wish campaign, the documentary takes a rather unnecessary diversion as Triple H, bursting out of a Metallica shirt he must have had since he was 12, heads with Stephanie to Malibu, FL.

The super-busy couple have migrated to the beach city simply to meet up with veteran music producer Rick Rubin in his sun-kissed recording studio, though it's relevance isn't clear. Rubin, a legitimate wrestling fan who helped finance Jim Cornette's Smoky Mountain Wrestling, advises Triple H to do his best this weekend against Batista, keeping kayfabe all the way.

Hunter has different ideas; he's not so interested in winning so much as it not being complete arse - which given the age of the two competitors, and rustiness of the Guardians of the Galaxy star, it could so easily have been. "Try not suck!" laughs Hunter. We reckon he managed.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
