8 Things We Learned From WWE's Opening XFL 2020 Games

1. Vince McMahon Can Be Proud Of Opening Night

Somewhere, shortly after the first quarter of that Seattle at DC game, Vince McMahon could be forgiven for letting a smile cross his face. He should be proud of what his Alpha Entertainment brand and WWE money achieved here. The XFL showcased solid, hard-hitting football.

This is a quite vast improvement over 2001's awkward attempt.

Skill plays ran rampant in every position, the presentation on ESPN (in particular) was top notch and the XFL has genuine potential to be an enjoyable alternative to the NFL. That could never really be said of 2019's Alliance Of American Football debacle, and it certainly couldn't be said of the now-defunct Arena Football League.

The XFL's opening night was more-than-watchable, didn't rely on WWE tropes hoping to lure in pro wrestling fans and must have caused some doubters to eat humble pie. Both games were a raging success, and that should make McMahon happy.
