8 Things WWE Want You To Ignore About NXT
4. Not A Promise Of Success
At first glance, it might appear that NXT is the fast track to stardom in WWE, but history dictates that’s not often the case.
Neville was the longest-reigning NXT Champion, but the accolade meant jack squat when he joined the main WWE roster. Although he came out to much fanfare, he was quickly shot down the card and eventually pigeon-holed in the Cruiserweight Division.
And whenever it appears the system seems to work, the performers still struggle to rise up the card. For instance, Kevin Owens arrived to destroy John Cena, but then he started to rack up losses and questionable victories. Even when he was champion, he didn’t always make the main event, and he generally couldn’t defend the belt on his own accord. More recently, he has been snug in the middle of the card.
NXT can certainly help WWE give new talents the greenlight, as they’ve learned the “WWE Way,” but once they’re out of Triple H’s care, anything can happen.
