The passing of Brodie Lee was one of the most heartbreaking events in pro wrestling. With zero tribalism involved from any quarters, wrestlers, fans, and insiders from all corners of the wrestling world mourned the tragic and unexpected death of a giant of the game who was enjoying the best run of his entire career.

As the benevolent leader of the previously directionless Dark Order, Brodie Lee was a revelation to the AEW roster. Having been underutilised in WWE, he came into his own wrestling for Tony Khan. Squashing Cody Rhodes in 190 seconds to win the TNT title remains one of the most shocking moments in the history of AEW, and his promos and in-ring work were of the highest standard.

Handling the passing of Jonathan Huber after idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis took his life on Boxing Day 2020 at the tender age of 41, the tribute episode of Dynamite to Brodie Lee on December 30th was handled exceptionally. Respectful and celebratory in equal measure, AEW's roster and creative team played out the most harrowing of circumstances perfectly. Ending with Cody and Tony consoling Amanda and his young son, Brodie, Lee's boots were laid to rest in the middle of the ring as the broadcast ended with a tasteful and moving video montage. Its impact will live on in fans' memories forever.
