8 Times WWE's Triple H Was A DISASTER-TIER Booker
7. John Cena's Retirement Run
The Rock justifiably deserves the majority of people's disdain for his role in derailing the final year of John Cena's WWE career. Putting that to one side, the creative for every part of Cena's final run felt like it was being booked at the last minute. For a man being lauded by the company as the GOAT, it was nowhere near the standard Triple H's creative team had set themselves during a superb 2024.
Things started well enough. Cena's last dance in the Royal Rumble ended in noble failure, but then came his heel run. The heel turn at Elimination Chamber was executed superbly, and even the first few promos Cena cut as a heel made sense. However, everything that came from WrestleMania 41 onwards was not befitting of John Cena's legacy.
Cena bounced from opponent to opponent as a directionless and unconvincing heel after The Rock's no-show at 'Mania 42, and his face turn on the eve of SummerSlam felt more like an apology for these wasted months rather than a moment for the ages. With only limited dates left on his schedule, each feud felt like cramming something in, as opposed to telling a story that will last the test of time. His final moment tapping out to Gunther has as many supporters as it does detractors, but our final year of John Cena was a total mess from a creative standpoint, whichever way you look at it.
