8 Title Reigns WWE Booked In The WORST Way Possible
3. Duane Gill - Light Heavyweight Champion (1998 - 2000)
Most wrestlers who hold their championship for an elongated stretch of time are celebrated to the heavens by WWE. Think of Roman Reigns's reign of terror with the WWE Championship, or CM Punk's 434-day stint at the top of the mountain. One name that won't be trumpeted for their 448-day run with the WWE Light Heavyweight Championship is Duane Gill, the man known to most of the wrestling world as Gillberg.
During the November 23rd, 1998 episode of Raw, Christian was enjoying his 30th day with the Light Heavyweight Championship. Accompanied by The Brood, what was supposed to be a routine title defence against Duane Gill quickly turned into a nightmare for Christian. Too Cold Scorpio hit the ring to frog splash the future Captain Charisma with the referee distracted, before pulling Gill on top of the champion for the title change.
Gill only defended the belt three times during his lengthy reign, as the Light Heavyweight Championship was essentially forgotten about altogether. Duane had a short run as the parody character Gillberg before eventually dropping the gold to red-haired high-flyer Essa Rios. Gill didn't return to a WWE ring for seven years, next appearing in Raw's 15th Anniversary Battle Royal as, you guessed it, Gillberg.
