8 Ups & 0 Downs From Impact Wrestling Emergence 2020 (Part 1)
1. An Instant Classic
The original outing between The Motor City Machine Guns and The North at the end of July was, to the surprise of literally no-one, an outstanding match. The rematch at Emergence? Even better.
Both teams utilised some unique tag team manoeuvres at numerous points in this match, remaining everyone why they're two of the most innovative tandems of the modern generation. Between the Detroit natives' usage of strike-based offence and the Canadian duo's tendency to focus on a specific area of the champions' bodies (in this case, their backs, with various backbreakers on display here), it made for a tantalising outing.
A callback to their first match saw Chris Sabin counter the Northern Assault with an inside cradle, which was a nice touch, as was Josh Alexander reversing the pressure of the rollup while holding off Alex Shelley made a simple rollup far more enjoyable. 'The Walking Weapon' was soon disposed of, leaving Ethan Page free to be grounded with the Skull & Bones to continue MCMG's title reign.
There was no way this was going to be a letdown. Impact management clearly had faith in the four, as evidenced by allowing them to main event again. It's a shame we're likely finished with this mini rivalry, as it's been tremendous the whole way through, however, it'll certainly be intriguing to see where The North go from here.
At least they'll always have their year-plus long reign.
