8 Ups & 2 Downs From AEW Dynamite (18 Oct)
7. Blackpool Combat Club Tension
Wheeler Yuta and Bryan Danielson's sitdown interview with Renee Paquette could - and should - have been longer. Paquette is great at this. Why minimise her impact, and why not give Danielson and Yuta more room to weave their tense story?
Nonetheless, the core content is strong. Danielson was smarting from the previous week's ROH Title loss to Chris Jericho but still has hopes for Daniel Garcia, who he thinks can become an all-timer on a technical level. This didn't sit well with Garcia's career rival, Yuta, who saw Red Death's betrayal of the Blackpool Combat Club coming.
Having fought and bled for the stable's colours, Yuta positioned him alongside Claudio Castagnoli and Jon Moxley, saying Danielson was the only one to home the BCC didn't mean anything. It was telling, too, that while Yuta sat in his stable-branded hoodie, Bryan wore a blue number.
A wide-reaching storyline drawing on Yuta and Garcia's pre-AEW history, Garcia and Yuta's shared reverence of Danielson, and everything AEW has done with the Blackpool Combat Club in 2022, this looks like an effective elevator for Yuta, whose stock continues to rise.
