8 Ups & 2 Downs From IMPACT Wrestling (22 April)

3. A+ Players

While Eric Young vs. Eddie Edwards could have done without the abundance of rest holds throughout the match and the gang warfare schtick that happens in every single match featuring a Violent By Design member, it was a genuinely enjoyable main event that was deserving of the main event spot.

Young – working with a torn ACL in this match, remember – fought tooth and nail against Eddie, including a brief spot of him trapping Eddie’s knee in the ropes and targeting it. A Blue Thunder Bomb, running forearm, and Tiger Driver were all highlights from Eddie’s viewpoint, all of which Young took perfectly.

‘The World Class Maniac’ caught Edwards off-guard with an inside cradle while the former Wolves man was distracted by the ringside shenanigans of the other six men involved in Sunday’s eight-man tag team match. A post-match brawl featuring all eight guys saw the show go off air mid-fight.

This was a good way to end the final IMPACT broadcast before Rebellion. It’s all well and good having the show end on a substantial note like something with Rich Swann and Kenny Omega, but what’s better than that is having eight guys featured at once. Matt Striker and D-Lo Brown ran down everything as the show concluded.

The perfect way to bring a wrestling promotion into a monumental pay-per-view.
