8 Ups & 3 Downs From Impact Wrestling (Dec 8)
1. Cleaning Up
Kenny Omega. On an Impact Wrestling show. In 2020.
Wild.
Flanked by Impact executive vice president Don Callis, the new AEW World Champion met with Josh Mathews in Omega's private tour bus, with the Impact broadcaster given the first interview with the champion since the shenanigans of last Wednesday. Rightfully so, both Mathews and Madison Rayne milked this all night long, mentioning Kenny Omega, Jon Moxley, AEW, and Dynamite whenever they possibly could.
Labelled as an interview conducted by Josh, he didn't actually get to say too much. His opening question brought out a fire promo from Callis, who not only took credit for booking 'The Cleaner' against Chris Jericho in the Tokyo Dome in 2018 - a match that reportedly planted the seeds for All Elite Wrestling - but he also claimed the relationship between he and the AEW ace goes back 27 years. The Golden Sheik, Kenny's uncle, is the one who trained Callis to be a wrestler back in his in-ring days.
Rounding out the interview, 'The Best Bout Machine' teased both a huge announcement for tonight's edition of Dynamite, as well as a future showdown with Impact's World Champion, Rich Swann. Keep in mind, Swann had been barred from entering the parking lot by security at the request of the AEW champ.
This was always going to be amazing. The reigning AEW World Champion appearing on Impact Wrestling a mere six days after lifting the title in the first place? Moments like this were previously unthinkable. Now, though, it plants the seeds for more involvement between the two companies. While Kenny to Impact has been previously reported as a one and done deal, that's not to say there won't be more interaction between the two promotions.
Seeing all this buzz, the companies need to act on it.
