8 Ups & 5 Downs From Impact Wrestling Slammiversary 2020
6. Made In Detroit
While some of the bigger surprises for Slammiversary surrounded the recently released WWE stars, the pay-per-view instead kicked off with the return of arguably the greatest tag team in Impact history, as The Motor City Machine Guns answered Dez and Wentz's open challenge. Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley hadn't teamed together since May 2018 on a co-promoted ROH and NJPW show, but this one match proved that they haven't lost a single bit of chemistry together.
Needless to say, the bout was as fast-paced as they come, as Dez, Wentz, Sabin, and Shelley went all out. Starting off slowly with some limb-based offence, the match soon descended into a blink and you'll miss it sort of bout, just what you want to get you hyped for an already tantalising pay-per-view. When it did pick up later on, there wasn't a thing not to love about this match. The innovative double team manoeuvres from all four men kept you craving more from everyone. Having the commentary team of Josh Mathews and Don Callis putting over how Alex Shelley has forever been underrated added a little something else to the bout.
The former World Tag Team Champions utilised an aided cutter variation on Dez to ensure a successful return to Impact Wrestling of The Motor City Machine Guns. By the looks of things, Sabin and Shelley are back in Impact on a full-time basis, something that will no doubt do wonders for Impact's already-stacked doubles division. They've already got a crack at the doubles titles confirmed for this Tuesday's Impact episode against The North.
Match of the year incoming? A contender for sure.
