8 Ups And 2 Downs From WWE NXT (Aug 31)

1. Utter Nonsense Derails A Return To Form For Johnny Wrestling

Johnny Gargano

WWE.comIt feels like an age since fans have been treated to the sight of an all out babyface Johnny Gargano doing his thing inside of the squared-circle, with his brief flirtation with the role against Karrion Kross a few month's back being quickly forgotten for the most part. However, Johnny Wrestling appeared to return better than ever last night, relishing in playing to the crowd against the universally despised LA Knight.

And all was going swimmingly for a time too. Even with Dexter Lumis and Indi Hartwell at ringside staring lifelessly into one another's eyes, Gargano and Knight were able to play to their strengths masterfully. The slimy heel took great pride in swatting Gargano out of the sky and derailing his momentum time and time again, but this merely paved the way for multiple fiery comebacks from the former NXT Champion. Hell, the sight of The Way's leader being caught by Lumis post-One Final Beat counter actually worked here too!

But NXT just couldn't quit while they were ahead. In a truly baffling development, Lumis insisted that Gargano reach out and... touch his glove? Perhaps even more bizarrely, the NXT veteran actually went out of his way to develop his physical relationship with his apparent future "son-in-law" mid-match. It came as little surprise to see Knight nail a BFT for the win shortly after, but what in the holy hell was Johnny hoping to achieve here?!

Just when it looked like In-Dex were threatening to make a lick of sense, Trips and the gang go and pull another odd moment out of the bag. Regardless of the fact the CWC seem to be all-in on the programme, file this finish under lacklustre.
