5. That Sinking Feeling

Sometimes, you can tell what’s on someone’s mind just by looking at them. In the case of Roman Reigns Monday night, you could make a pretty good educated guess.

Reigns was in the ring during the opening segment trading barbs with two of the best, Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho, when KO delivered a solid jab. The WWE Universal Champion blasted Reigns for calling himself “The Guy,” saying it was a joke. Roman responded, “I am The Guy,” which drew some solid boos – and a pained look from the United States Champion.

You had to feel bad for Reigns there. The whole “The Guy” moniker clearly is being forced down everyone’s throats, to the point where even the guy whose nickname it is winces. It takes a special character to be able to convincingly call himself “The Guy” or “The Man” or “The People’s Champion.” Ric Flair and The Rock could pull it off in part because of who they were, but also because fans bought it.

Fans aren’t buying Reigns’ “The Guy” nickname, and it seemed Monday like he knows it’s not clicking, but he still had to go out and deliver the scripted line to boos.
