8 Ways WWE SummerSlam 2017 Can Outdo WrestleMania 33

6. The Miz & John Cena In Singles Matches

John Cena and The Miz had the foundation for a great singles rivalry heading into WrestleMania 33. Both were producing dynamite on the microphone, with their barbs growing increasingly personal every single week, but a one-on-one clash didn't materialise. WWE instead threw Maryse and Nikki Bella into the mix, and in the end, the match served as nothing more than a vehicle for Cena's marriage proposal.

It was a corny way to use two of SmackDown's biggest assets, but SummerSlam shouldn't have the same problem. Neither Cena nor Miz are officially booked at the moment, but it looks as though they'll be facing Baron Corbin and Jason Jordan respectively, both of which could be fun encounters.

Miz isn't the most fluid wrestler in the world, but his charisma always helps elevate his matches to the next level, and Jordan is a fantastic athlete. Corbin has more than his fair share of critics, meanwhile, but he couldn't ask for a better opponent to help him deliver a good match on the second biggest show of the year. Again, we're probably not looking at a set of five-star classics here, but every event needs a solid midcard, and these bouts can provide that.
