8 Wild & Unscripted WWE Moments That Made Matches Better
4. The Acolytes Beat The Hell Out Of Public Enemy For Real
Even a lot of diehard WWE fans would be hard-pressed to remember this match - and not just because it was on the undercard of Sunday Night Heat. It's because this tag team match became a shoot the instant the bell rang, and WWE swiftly slid this one as far under the rug as they could.
The backstory to this goes as follows: Public Enemy, a team famous for putting people through tables, had just come into the WWE from ECW and had issues with the veterans backstage.
Then they entered into a kayfabe feud with the Acolytes. Already hated, Public Enemy tried to change the ending to their match at the last minute, refusing to be put through tables by the Acolytes as planned.
Faarooq's response? "If they don't want to go through the table then we'll take the table to them".
Thus began one of the most brutal, legitimate thumpings ever dished out inside a professional wrestling ring. Faarooq was laying potatoes left and right, while Bradshaw decided he'd try to genuinely break a steal chair over Johnny Grunge's body.
True to their word, they made damn sure they went through those tables.
This wasn't a no DQ match, by the way. The ref was just too petrified to step in and interfere. They kept going long after the bell finally rung, anyways, proving that this was never going to be a legit match.
But holy hell was it entertaining.
