8 Wrestlers Being Buried By WWE's Scripted Promos
4. Drew McIntyre
Why hasn't Drew had a run as a top heel? That is a question asked not only by fans, but by many legends of the industry alike. And the running theme of this article may be your answer: the dreaded scripted promo.
When Drew was getting the most rub and screen-time recently as Shane's top lackey of the week (brought to you by Snickers) he was forced to say some of the weirdest threats to his opponents in all of wrestling.
In one promo, he actually said to Cedric after his janitorial exploits that he would disembowel, dismember, and eviscerate him. Granted, he said he was joking about the first two because they were illegal but the point is proven.
How can anyone believably try to get people to invest in their promos when they are using such ridiculous language? This is the type of stuff Mox is referring to when he says he was lying to fans. Nobody wants to watch Drew ACTUALLY disembowel Cedric. But we don't want him to say it in a promo either.
The Scottish Psychopath is a great nickname, but it doesn't need to extend to a serial killer gimmick. Allowing Drew to simply play a cocky, realistic human being would be a refreshing change.
Drew doesn't need a script with a bunch of synonyms for murder. He needs to go in the ring, show his immense talent, and then brag about it. When you're as good as he is, sometimes it can be that simple. No script necessary.
