8 Wrestlers Cody Helped To Get Over In AEW
2. MJF
Since AEW’s infancy, MJF was elevated by his association with Cody Rhodes. “The Salt Of The Earth” was brand new to many fans but his place at Cody’s side made it clear he was someone to keep an eye on.
In the build to their PPV match, MJF and Cody felt made for each other. Cody’s babyface fire was the perfect foil for MJF’s dastardly heel persona. Cody desperately wanted the match to gain a measure of justice after the younger man threw in the towel and deliberately cost Cody the world title.
This allowed MJF to toy with his rival, tossing out challenges he knew his opponent couldn’t possibly refuse. All of which played to the prodigious talent’s strengths. This was the start of MJF’s rise as the perfect episodic TV wrestler, incredible on the mic and always dropping the next hook to keep you tuning in next week.
Then, of course, Cody did the unexpected and put MJF over at Revolution. This was the second feud ending PPV loss for Cody in a row. Also, if we’re keeping track, the first of AEW’s Pillars to beat Cody. Of the four Cody only has Jungle Boy left to put over.
