8 Wrestlers WWE Must Sign For The New Cruiserweight Division

3. Rey Mysterio

With so many emergent talents already drafted in, WWE runs the risk of falling prey to dreaded 50/50 booking by positioning them as equals - and thus failing to cement any one of them as the premier attraction.

The Brian Kendrick is poised to claim the elder statesman role, but with all due respect to the man, his credentials as a Cruiserweight legend don't stack up - his truncated singles push arrived at a time in which men of his rail-thin size were lumped with the heavyweights, such was WWE's antipathy towards the Junior style at the tail end of the noughties.

In the absence of Jushin "Thunder" Liger, who is content to prop up New Japan undercards as a puro living legend, Rey Mysterio is the foremost candidate to transfer his legendary starpower to the new guard.

With Albert Del Rio's departure, WWE need a hispanic star to replace him, and there is still nobody else with the prominence and wattage better positioned to do just that than Mysterio. Unlike Liger, Mysterio, currently in the midst of a career renaissance, likely isn't similarly loyal to Lucha Underground.

Somehow still in possession of his preternatural aerial skills, despite years' worth of wear and tear, Rey is akin to Triple H - so bulletproof of reputation that he could withstand several losses and still retain his status as a prized scalp.
