Jarrett always thought he should be a bigger star in the WWF. A popular heel during the Attitude Era, he had a big supporter in head writer Vince Russo. Russo even suggested that Jarrett should feud with top babyface Steve Austin but 'The Texas Rattlesnake' nixed the idea. He felt Jarrett wasn't in his league and resented Jeff's father Jerry for not pushing him in his USWA promotion in the early '90s. Perhaps this is the reason that Jarrett decided to hold up Vince and the WWF for $300,000 to drop the Intercontinental Title to Chyna at No Mercy. Jarrett's contract had expired one day before the match, you see, and he was ready to sign a big money deal with rival WCW where friend and supporter Vince Russo was reportedly going. Jarrett got the money and his big move to WCW but was not picked up by the WWF when it bought out WCW in March 2001. Still, Jarrett did manage to get one over on Vince and continued to make decent money for TNA in the following decade.
