I certainly wouldn't go so far as to call it the 'best of a bad bunch', but the four way Intercontinental title match in 2012 really stands out when it comes to Night of Champions opening bouts.

The Miz was the champion at the time, and understandably miffed about having to defend against three challengers. Rey was in the twilight of his WWE career, Cody was in a strange limbo where the Intercontinental title felt like it was his, and Sin Cara was Sin Cara.

One great (and surprising) aspect of the match is the performance of JBL on commentary. He really goes to town putting over The Miz. Michael Cole had done the same in years previous, but JBL's experience as an in-ring competitor lent a little more credibility to the claims, and I would wager that it was one of JBL's last great commentary performances.

The addition of Mysterio and Sin Cara lent something of a cruiserweight feel to the match, a formula which never fails to get a crowd going at the start of a show. Miz pins Cody after the Skull Crushing Finale.

Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man.
