8 WWE Tag Teams That Were Broken Up Way Too Soon

3. Rey Mysterio & Eddie Guerrero

Hey kids, look, it's Latino Heat again! And this time he's teaming with his friend and frequent foe, Rey Mysterio. Eddie and Rey Rey fought and teamed with each other a lot in WCW but had scarcely been given the opportunity to in WWE. That changed in 2005 when they combined the two, with Eddie and Rey having a successful tag team run and then a major singles feud. Successful, yes, but also too short-lived. Eddie an Rey started teaming in February 2005 and won the titles from the totally nondescript Basham Brothers at No Way Out. After reflecting on a few recent competitive losses to Mysterio, Guerrero challenged him to a match at WrestleMania 21 to see who the better man was (the first time Tag Team Champions had fought at WrestleMania). It all started friendly, anyway. After losing to Rey yet again, Eddie became more and more troubled and disillusioned with their relationship. After dropping the belts to new team MNM, Eddie turned on Rey in violent fashion on the May 5th episode of Smackdown. Their days of teaming together were well and truly over, only a few shorts months after forming a proper unit. As good as their 2005 feud was (before the Dominik nonsense, anyway), I can't help but feel that there was plenty more mileage in the team. Hell, they could have gotten at least six weeks of matches with MNM before doing the big turn. Their feud told a personal, believable story and produced some of the best matches of the year, but it would have been nice to see Rey and Eddie team up a little bit more before pulling the trigger on it.
