8 WWE Title Reigns That Were Completely Wasted

Dean Ambrose is the longest-reigning United States Champion since the title has been in World Wrestling Entertainment. The newly-crowned WWE World Heavyweight Champion held the strap for 351 days, from Extreme Rules 2013 all the way through to an episode of RAW a year later. The fact that he lost the title in a battle royal on free TV says a lot about his reign.

Quite frankly, Ambrose's title reign did everything but kill the championship. He had a grand total of zero interesting feuds as champion, taking part more in six-man tag battles as part of The Shield. Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins were the tag champions at that time, but even they managed to have an engaging beef with both The Usos and The Rhodes Brothers, who would eventually dethrone them.

Ambrose? Well, he just sort of held the title and not much else. He defended it on pay-per-view against Kane, Rob Van Dam, Dolph Ziggler and Big E. Langston, but only managed to pin Ziggler. All the other matches ended in disqualification or count-out.

The reign was record-breaking, but it was also a complete waste of time.
