9 Best WCW Luchadores
6. Chavo Guerrero Jr.
When Chavo Guerrero Jr., son of Chavo Sr. and nephew to Uncle Eddie, started with WCW he was, to put it rather bluntly, not very good. He had received the tryout thanks to his more famous Uncle and after a good showing against Steven Regal, was signed to a deal.
His early days wrestling on Worldwide or in the usual ragbag six-mans were unexceptional. It was obvious that Chavo had talent, but he was still very green. Chavo's fortunes changed once he was programmed with Eddie in 1998.
As part of their angle, Eddie would continually try to make Chavo cheat to win but the babyface Chavo would not do it. This act of treason would cause Eddie to employ ever crueller methods to keep his nephew in check, which resulted in Chavo losing his mind and becoming best friends with a hobby horse named 'Pepe'.
Their matches at the '98 Great American Bash and the Bash at the Beach showed just had much Chavo had come on over previous two years and, under Eddie's tutorship, he was developing into quite the worker. In the last few years of WCW, Chavo was the company's cruiserweight standard-bearer and had some great matches with Rey Mysterio and Shane Helms.
His contract was acquired by WWE in March 2001 when Vince bought WCW and Chavo had a mixed run between 2002 and 2011 when he requested his release. These days Chavo is continuing to promote lucha libre in the United States and around the world as a wrestler/producer for the cutting-edge Lucha Underground promotion.
