9 Best Wrestling Lone Wolves Ever

9. AJ Styles

It was a storyline that had no business working on paper, but in practice it gave AJ Styles a chance to flex his broody muscles and work his way back to the top of the TNA mountain in the process. 2012 was a bad year for AJ, as the Claire Lynch storyline with Christopher Daniels raged on and on and on. Something truly needed to change in 2013.

When AJ returned to TNA the following year, something was up. His hair was unkempt, his attire black and his beard grown out. AJ would save individuals from attacks before attacking them himself, and for weeks viewers were unsure as to whether AJ stood against Aces & Eights or alongside them.

The truth was AJ stood alone. He became something of a lone wolf in the company, a man who had given everything to TNA for years only to be passed over time and time again. It led to AJ winning the Bound for Glory Series and subsequently the TNA World Heavyweight Championship at BFG that year, only to leave the company shortly after.

AJ has displayed a number of his lone wolf tendencies on SmackDown Live recently, as without The Club he has taken it upon himself to look after number one and number one alone.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
