2. Dennis Rodman
Just like with Kevin Greene, Dennis Rodman in WCW was an attempt to exploit outside celebrity and the fanbase of another sport. In this case, Rodman (a.k.a. The Worm) had been suspended by the NBA for a good chunk of the 96-97 season, and decided to turn to his love of wrestling and actually get in the ring. He would appear with pal Hulk Hogan at a Monday Nitro in March 97 and quickly wound up in the nWo. Of course, eventually everyone joined the nWo, but Rodman's appearance was really pushing the limits of credibility. Rodzilla would tag with Hogan against The Giant and Lex Luger that July at Bash at the Beach, then return to basketball - only to return to wrestling a year later at Bash at the Beach 98, where he took on fellow NBA star Karl Malone in a tag match. Rodman was paired with Hogan, and Malone with DDP in what was generally regarded as one of the worst WCW matches in years. The match marked the end of Rodman in WCW, though he would wrestle off an on a couple of times for other promotions over the years. Besides the fact that he couldn't really wrestle all that well, Rodman in wrestling failed for one simple reason: as Roddy Piper later recalled, WCW workers were instructed "not to touch" Rodman - which meant he couldn't take any big bumps. It made sense given his basketball career, but if you can't take bumps there's no point in trying to work a wrestling match.
