Ultimately though, the goal of all goals for Roman Reigns and, more importantly, one that appears to be shared by the office is presumably for him to conquer the irrepressible Brock Lesnar and eventually slay The Beast.

We almost saw this happen at WrestleMania 31, much to the chagrin of just about every fan inside Levi's Stadium. Ambrose, Cena and Orton have already tried and failed, Rollins ran like a scolded dog last time he was faced with the prospect, and it’s hard to see the company going all in on AJ Styles as the man to eventually pin Lesnar. There are of course a couple of NXT talents who’d make for ideal candidates, but until they get called up to the main roster, that remains little more than a pipe dream.

At the end of the day, love it or hate it, Roman Reigns still appears to be the odds-on favourite to defeat Brock Lesnar and assume the mantle of the company’s next top star.

Whether or not WWE audiences will agree though is slightly less clear-cut.
