9 Things We Learned From NJPW Dominion 6.19
4. KUSHIDA Is The Ace Of The Junior Heavyweight World
Ever since the Best of the Super Juniors tournament, Will Ospreay (and to a lesser extent, Ricochet) have been the talk of the wrestling world. The two put on a true clinic during the tournament, drawing the ire of many veterans in the process. Ospreay won that match, won that tournament, won a whole host of plaudits along the way and immediately challenged IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion KUSHIDA in the aftermath.
KUSHIDA has been somewhat of a forgotten man as of late, a forgotten man in his own kingdom. The talk has been all about Ospreay, but KUSHIDA is the man on top and he confirmed this by defeating the young Brit at Dominion. Ospreay put up a great performance, but it still wasn't enough to dethrone KUSHIDA.
KUSHIDA has been champion for 6 months now, ever since defeating Kenny Omega at Wrestle Kingdom 10. He is fast running out of credible challengers, although the three men who defeated him in the Best of the Super Juniors (Rocky Romero, BUSHI and Kyle O'Reilly) surely will get their shots sooner rather than later.
Ospreay's time will come, but it may have to wait until Wrestle Kingdom 11. This is KUSHIDA's division for the time being.
