9 Things WWE Must Do To Bring Back Causal Wrestling Fans
3. Encourage Fan Participation
Whenever you go to live shows, you go there in order to be entertained. With today's product, however, the crowd are more of an afterthought. WWE simply don't care about giving them what they want and encouraging them to participate. With attendance figures slowly decreasing over the last decade or so, it's not going to be long before it's a real problem. It already kinda is for Smackdown, which frequently takes place before half-full arenas. The What! and YES! chants have pretty much become a mainstay, shouted with glee by the so-called WWE Universe. It became so wildly popular because the likes of Daniel Bryan and Steve Austin had it become part of their acts and made sure it got over. They actively encouraged the fan participation. Wrestlers need to feed off the crowd. Even if they're somewhat being disrespectful by chanting random things, which I don't agree with, but if there's a heel in the ring, let him grab a mic and cut a promo on how rude and disrespectful the crowd are being. They'll love that they're being acknowledged and will most likely continue to aim their chants towards that particular heel, generating the heat that they'll thrive off. It makes the show so much better when performers and the audience interact with one another. It's pretty disappointing at the amount of signs in today's crowd compared to the nighties, as well as the numerous reports coming out every few months about random signs being confiscated by security. In times like these, WWE should be encouraging fans to get involved with the show. It would only help create a better atmosphere for the viewers and for the wrestlers. So they're sign is mildly offensive? So what! At least they're passionate enough to make a sign!
