9 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Big Boss Man

9. The Disappointing End To His WWE Career

Perhaps no moment throughout Boss Man's entire career was more disappointing than the conclusion of his second stint with WWE. After five years with the company, he was demoted to training students in developmental, then outright fired in 2003. It was the culmination of a year of misuse and missed opportunities. After returning to television following injury in 2001, Boss Man found modest success as the bodyguard for Vince McMahon, a role he returned to WWE in three years earlier. He was solid in that position and even made a fine tag team partner for Booker T, who was in the midst of a feud with "Stone Cold" Steve Austin. That role allowed him to enjoy main event matches while also masking his weaknesses at his advanced age. But then he was shoved into the undercard, left to wallow away on D-level programming like Jakked and Metal. For anyone who had followed his second run with the company and realized how valuable an act he could be, it had to be disheartening to watch his talent wasted while fledgling acts like Billy and Chuck and the mangled mess that was the hardcore division steal television time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=afwpXL1Nq9A He should have been utilized better. If the company was considering cutting him lose, get something out of it that benefited both parties. Let him put his career on the line, as any arrogant heel would, against an upstart young star. Imagine some of the work that he could have done with Hurricane, poking fun at his comic book fandom and allowing his own hubris to get the best of him in the process. Instead, he was tossed aside in a tragic misstep by management and WWE Creative alike, both of which did him a great disservice on his way out the door.
