9 Ups & 2 Downs From WWE NXT (Jul 27)
5. Kai Finally Shows Her True Colours
Last week saw Raquel Gonzalez once again best one of the most dangerous women in the division, literally knocking the wind out of Xia Li in the pair's NXT Women's Championship match. So, naturally, the champ took to the ring last night and confessed that there is simply no one left for her to bully.
Big Mami Cool's sentiments were mirrored by her good pal Dakota Kai too, who played an absolute blinder in convincing the CWC that she was still every bit the one-woman hype group for the current, reigning NXT Women's Champion. That was until Kai finally unleashed what appears to be months of frustration on her one-time bud, staying true to her word that Gonzalez would always be Champion as long as she had her back. Sure enough, it looks like that times has now definitively passed.
This epic stretches back a whole year, with Gonzalez growing under the tutelage of Kai back in 2020, only to surpass her teacher at TakeOver: Stand and Deliver by winning the big one. The subsequent months have involved constant teases of subtle dissension in their ranks, but now is most definitely the time to pull the trigger with arguably the biggest TakeOver of the year coming into view as the follow-up to what seems like a truly stacked SummerSlam.
Can Gonzalez get the job done without her mate backing her up for the first time since she arrived on the black and gold show? Or will Kai expose her protege's flaws and finally reach the top of the mountain? These are the sort of stories that NXT should be telling.
