9 Ups & 5 Downs From IMPACT Wrestling Against All Odds 2021

Kenny Omega vs. Moose is already being dissected by social media for its change of pace compared to previous high-profile Omega fights. For your writer, though, this worked.

Because Omega typically works with guys of a similar stature, his offence works on them. He can easily hit a snap dragon suplex on PAC, for instance, but not Moose. It’s why he relied on his strikers more than he ordinarily would; his V-Triggers looked a tad more impactful than normal for a reason.

The slower pace meant that the high-risk spots meant something. Omega’s somersault dive, Moose’s Spanish Fly, and the Young Bucks’ interference weren’t done to elicit a pop, but rather to progress the story arc.

Keep in mind that a major factor surrounding this match had been Omega knowing he couldn’t lift Moose up for the One-Winged Angel. That’s why the Bucks intervened. The match could have ended after the BTE Trigger, but the defending champion wanted to make a statement, and so he and the Jackson brothers lifted Moose up for a neat three-man OWA instead.

This was always going to be a classic, however, the different atmosphere massively benefitted proceedings. Moose was never going to win, but you thought he might have at some points. That was crucial here, and the ‘crowd’ cheering for him helped him immensely. Good work all around.

It got better, though…
