All 5 Brock Lesnar/Roman Reigns WWE Matches: Ranked From Worst To Best
Spoiler alert: This rivalry hasn't gotten better with time.
Whether you like it or not, unless there’s some divine intervention, we’re getting another Brock Lesnar versus Roman Reigns match for the WWE Universal Championship at SummerSlam. This will be Lesnar’s fourth title match in 2018, and his third against Reigns.
But if you think that’s too much, you have to realize that Brock and Roman have tangled several other times too. By now, many fans who might have been pumped about a hard-hitting bout between these two heavyweights have turned against the concept. We’ve seen the match done to death recently, and it’s almost become farcical.
In fact, probably the most intriguing thing you could do for the upcoming conflict would be to place an over/under bet on how many German suplexes, F-5s, Superman punches and spears are going to be thrown throughout.
To be perfectly fair, it wasn’t always like this. And not every match has been a dumpster fire like the last two. Reigns/Lesnar has always had the potential to be a decent affair – and sometimes, it has delivered. Other times, not so much.
So let’s take a look back at all the matches between these two in advance of what will very likely be their final encounter at SummerSlam. What made them good, bad, or just plain ugly?
5. WrestleMania 34
The worst among the five matches between Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns has to be from this year’s WrestleMania.
The main event of WM 34 was supposed to be Roman’s latest coronation, as he had not held a world title in nearly two years and was looking to avenge his title loss involving Lesnar three years earlier. Reigns won an Elimination Chamber match, overcoming a dominant Braun Strowman, to earn the title shot. Like it or not, it felt like the inevitable conclusion to three years of storytelling.
Only that’s not what happened.
Reigns and Lesnar had a bomb of a match, which more closely resembled a video game than a real match. Consider this rundown of moves: three Superman punches, six German suplexes, four spears and six F-5s. It was only after the sixth(!) F-5 that Brock put Roman down, which ran completely counter to what everyone and their mother was expecting.
There’s swerving fans, and then there’s just stupid booking. This was a bad match with stupid booking.
