Biggest Winners & Losers of AEW Double or Nothing 2024

6. Loser: Don Callis

Will Ospreay
AEW

The last we saw of Don Callis at Double or Nothing would indicate that he had a great night. He was all smiles, talking about how The Don Callis Family had reasons to celebrate, and that on Dynamite, he will be offering a contract to a new member of the team.

But what's under the surface is that it actually wasn't a successful evening for Callis himself. Merely, his associate Will Ospreay was the only one who actually left the event with something to gloat about.

During that match for the International Championship, Callis tried to convince Ospreay to severely injure Strong with a Tiger Driver. Ospreay hesitated, decided not to be that cruel, and it nearly cost him the match. But he managed to maintain his integrity and won the title in spite of his mentor's advice, proving that he doesn't need him and Callis may be more of a burden to his soul than a benefit.

This was reiterated later in the evening when Konosuke Takeshita did the opposite, listened to Callis, opted to go for a steel chair and it led to Jon Moxley being able to take a breather and turn the weapon onto Takeshita. The commentary team made a point to stress that based on the match's scales being so heavily in Takeshita's favor for the majority of the contest, it was listening to Callis that led to his defeat.

Takeshita may look at this loss and blame his manager, whose advice only got in the way of him earning an IWGP World Heavyweight Championship opportunity, and Callis may find himself soon losing his two biggest contracts.
