21. Vs. John Cena - Backlash 2003

Brock Lesnar didn't have a whole lot to work with following his dramatic title win at WrestleMania XIX. Angle was on the shelf with another neck injury, The Undertaker was also babyface and The Big Show had just suffered a high profile loss to the Dead Man on the grandest stage. So WWE shoved Cena into a programme with Lesnar. The same John Cena who didn't even wrestle at 'Mania XIX or appear during the live show (he cut a promo on the pre-show). The same John Cena who was about two years away from being ready for a WWE Title shot. The same John Cena who still had Bull 'B2' Buchanan as a bodyguard... The OVW standouts had a disappointing match (Cena was coming off an injury layoff) but it wasn't bad. They'd have better ones together in later years but, for all his promise, Cena just didn't have what it took at this time and nobody bought him as a threat to Lesnar.
