After their underwhelming King of the Ring final, The Pain and Mr. Monday Night were out to redeem themselves. And redeem themselves they did, with a spirited match that looked like it was getting going right before the lame DQ finish. They had almost double the time and the match was twice as good. Unfortunately, WWE booked themselves into a corner with this one. Brock was essentially killing time before wrestling The Rock for the World Title at SummerSlam and needed a programme. So they paired him up against RVD, who was the IC Champ at the time. They didn't want to give Brock a pointless IC reign so WWE booked the DQ finish, with Heyman pulling Van Dam out of the ring when he ostensibly had Brock beat. For the ten minutes before it, their match was a decent styles clash.
