CM Punk: 11 Questions For Where He Goes Next

11. The Ultimate Fighter TV Show

Phil Brooks is a friend of UFC President Dana White, even sitting next to him while watching his other close friend Ronda Rousey defend her Women's Championship at UFC 170. When White was questioned about his friendship with Brooks, he acted coy, he stated that they never discussed pro-wrestling or the situation with WWE. Further pressed on if he would ever allow Brooks to take part in the UFC, White didn't rule it out, stating he would hear his friend out if he was interested. Basically, the UFC door is open if Punk can get in shape, White is a promoter at heart, he knows he can make easy money off of promoting CM Punk in MMA. Forget all the White machoism about not wanting to make the UFC gimmicky, this is the guy who let Kimbo Slice and James Toney in on the party. If a backyard fighter like Slice is allowed into UFC, someone like Punk would surely be accepted by White. The only way to envision it happening would be if Punk was put on the same road Slice went on. That means he would be put on the Ultimate Fighter TV Show, basically as the key ratings draw. If Punk managed to get a win there, he might end up getting a UFC PPV appearance. In likelihood, Punk wouldn't make it that far. The Ultimate Fighter show is a realistic aspiration, but could he be successful? Not likely. He has no concrete prerequisites in MMA apart from basic jiu-jitsu. However, would he be up for the challenge? Yes, I believe so. Would White be up for exploiting his name value on The Ultimate Fighter? Yes, I believe he would. A year of training and hardcore commitment under his belt and we could well see CM Punk at the low levels of MMA. Just don't expect him to be hot-shotted like Brock Lesnar was, 'The Beast' was an athletic freak, Brooks's attributes are nowhere near.
