In the early days of the Straight Edge Society (and CM Punks first heel run in WWE), Punk was picking up some serious momentum as the villainous leader of the cult group. For weeks, CM Punk had selected members of the live audience for a chance at salvation and initiation into his society. He saved Luke Gallows (formerly known as the unresponsive Festus) from a life of prescription medication that left the wrestler comatosed and lost to reality. Now, it was time for one more member to join, and that was the talented Serena. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8LUszdvkPk Serena sat down and accepted straight edge into her life with CM Punk as her saviour. CM Punk controlled the audience from the second he took the microphone in his hand (something he was very talented at), his passion and manipulation came across perfectly he brought an incredible amount of believability to his role which made fans react all the more. CM Punk had almost been masquerading as a Jesus Christ figure, growing his hair and beard long (to make his purity stand out amongst his shaved followers) while preaching to audience about their heinous ways and telling them to follow him to the light. Serena became Punks Mary Magdalene, and the comparison drew a lot of controversy and a huge amount of criticism from religious groups, especially among the live crowd at house show events where Punk had numerous altercations with fans and was called the devil which he loved.
