CM Punk's WWE Matches In Chicago Ranked From Worst To Best
8. CM Punk Vs. Dolph Ziggler & Jack Swagger - Gauntlet Match (RAW 26 December 2011)
Fresh off a big win over both Alberto Del Rio and The Miz at TLC, in a who's who of 2011-WWE-Champions TLC Match, CM Punk needed new challengers for the new year. All Jack Swagger, Dolph Ziggler or Mark Henry had to do was accomplish what John Cena couldn't earlier that year - beat CM Punk in Chicago, as part of a gauntlet match on the final RAW of the year. If Punk managed to beat all three, he'd get a chance to beat the corporate yes-man-ship out of John Laurinaitis immediately afterward.
Jack Swagger went first and pulled off a good little mini-match with Punk, but ultimately (and predictably) succumbed to the reigning WWE Champion after a high kick to the face.
The Z-Man (not Tom Zenk) came in next, but not before the defeated Swagger assisted his then-partner by attacking Punk's knee, with Ziggler then targeting Punk's bad leg like a shark smelling blood.
Despite the odds, Punk was able to hit the GTS, only for Vickie Guerrero to sacrifice herself and break up the count, getting ejected from ringside as a result. That small window gave Ziggler enough time to Zig Zag the injured champion and pin him to become his next challenger.
Despite losing "at home", at least it gave Punk something new to do as the WWE Champion heading into 2012.
