Cody Rhodes Will Wrestle THIS WWE Star At Backlash 2024

WWE punched this guy's ticket to Backlash France on Friday's episode of SmackDown.

AJ Styles beat LA Knight on this week's episode of SmackDown to become the brand new number one contender for Cody Rhodes' WWE Title. Now, AJ marches on to Backlash: France, and surely a main event slot vs. WWE's number one babyface.

Knight and Styles worked a snug rematch from WrestleMania 41 to kick off Friday's show. Predictably, both guys produced the goods before AJ poked LA in the eye and pinned him following a Phenomenal Forearm smash. That finish does sow seeds for some complaints from Knight, and possibly a blowoff match down the road now they're locked at one win apiece since becoming rivals.

AJ was always going to be a more logical foe for Cody than Knight. Going the babyface vs. babyface route could've been awkward for LA - there's just no way he would've topped Rhodes in that department, especially after events at 'Mania.

So, there you have it: Cody Rhodes vs. AJ Styles is now official for Backlash 2024. France is in for a treat, because both World Title bouts (Damian Priest vs. Jey Uso is the other one) look seriously tasty.
