Enzo And Big Cass Rumoured For CONTROVERSIAL NXT Return

You can't teach an old dog new tricks.

Enzo Cass
WWE

In quite astonishing news reported in this week's Wrestling Observer Newsletter, per Dave Meltzer, WWE has contacted Enzo & Cass ahead of a rumoured return to the NXT brand. And not just that: the interest is purportedly strong enough that Triple H - or perhaps somebody else - sees them as "top stars".

Writes Meltzer:

"We don't know if they've accepted, but Cass really hasn't done much on the indie scene and has also made it clear he wants to get back. Enzo, who really knows. He says a lot of things but his rap career isn't exactly going anywhere."

This might read a bit "tinfoil hat", and Enzo Amore isn't the most credible of sources, but speaking to Title Match Wrestling earlier this year, Enzo revealed that he was Vince McMahon's "favourite character he had on that show for about a year". "I don't know, but I was booked more than any other guy with a microphone on TV for a year," he continued.

"I knew that I was Hunter's red-headed stepchild," Enzo said, with more certainty. ""Hunter will sit in the room, browbeat me, and tell me I'm about to be fired, and then the next night, I get handed a microphone in the main event of Monday Night RAW. Vince is the one calling the shots."

This is business, of course, but is Vince calling the shots here?

Personal animosity rarely if ever prohibits business, but Triple H's NXT is very much removed from the brand on which Enzo and Big Cass broke through. A super-Indy with a massive budget, every match on every TakeOver in the last two years has sought critical acclaim beyond call-and-response character work.

Big Cass is in Vince-friendly shape, too...
