7. Joey Janela Vs. Jon Moxley (Fyter Fest 2019)
Throughout their three-year history, AEW has produced a good few weapons-oriented brawls that fit the mantra of a modernised Extreme Championship Wrestling.
Jon Moxley vs. Joey Janela remains a hidden gem of the category.
Going down as Mox's maiden voyage in AEW, their Lights Out encounter from the 2019 Fyter Fest was plunder at its best. Moxley tossed Janela into the audience within minutes of the bell sounding, while later on, he repeatedly kneed the piss out of Janela's head in a brutal spot, signifying this wasn't the 'Lunatic Fringe' anymore; this was the 'Death Rider'.
Respect must be given to both for their barbarity throughout, too. Their backgrounds in the likes of Combat Zone Wrestling and Game Changer Wrestling meant they were open to going through quite literally anything. There was no off button for them here. Janela went through a barbed wire board, got dropped barefoot on some thumbtacks. Moxley went through a table after having an elbow dropped on him from what was at least a twenty foot-high ladder.
The match-ending spot was perhaps the most gruesome, though, as the 'Bad Boy' was spiked atop a thumbtack pile via Paradigm Shift. It was inhumane of anyone other than Jon Moxley, thus making it the perfect culmination to this bout.
Barbaric, organised plunder.
