Alberto Del Rio's two WWE Championship reigns were thrown in the middle of a blender, alongside a chaotic series of title switches, and churned into something unrecognisable from the other ten hot potato reigns of 2011.

During a wild stretch throughout that year, the belt changed hands nine times in just seven months.

One of those crazy months saw CM Punk win the title, vacate it for Rey Mysterio to win, who then himself immediately lost to John Cena. Big Match John then lost it to Punk again, who was then defeated immediately by Del Rio who cashed in his Money In The Bank briefcase for his first reign.

This was all within the space of just 27 days. Even then, his short 35-day reign would end at the very next pay-per-view, losing the strap to Cena.

Still following?

No one really knows why the belt was being tossed around like it was the Hardcore Title in the middle of an Attitude Era pay-per-view, but Del Rio was the beneficiary for a second time.

Just 14 days after he had lost the gold, the Mexican would regain the WWE Championship inside Hell in a Cell in the structure's first ever Triple Threat match that also involved Punk. Although Del Rio did get a defence in against Cena in a Last Man Standing match, it would be another short reign, this time dropping the belt to Punk at Survivor Series.

His two reigns lasted a total of 84 days.
