Every Match From WWE SummerSlam 2016 Ranked - From Worst To Best
1. AJ Styles Vs. John Cena
Result: Styles stacks up the Styles Clash and Phenomenal Forearm for the clean win (23:10).
Rating: The crowd were absolutely white-hot for this one from the get-go, aided by Cena giving one of his best and most physical performances in years if not ever.
There were a ton of stiff moments here (for WWE's standards, anyway), resulting in the most viscerally engaging of the Cena-Styles battles to date, with terrific storytelling to boot.
Even though Styles going over clean was very much welcome, it's a shame the Styles Clash continues to be gimped, which seems to be WWE's prerogative moving forward. Still, an absolute corker on the whole and an extremely compelling argument for the Cena cynics out there: how he played off the desperation after AJ kicked out of the Super-AA was perfect.
This honestly would've been a much better main event candidate than Lesnar-Orton. Terrific work all-around.
9/10
