Triple H absolutely dominated the 2000s, racking up multiple world title runs, WrestleMania main events, and countless opening monologues on RAW. However, it was in 1999 when Helmsley began his main event run, winning the WWF title twice. In all honesty, however, these weren’t the most memorable title reigns.

Caught in the midst of hotshotting fever, Hunter’s first world title reign ended three weeks later on an episode of SmackDown, when Vince McMahon defeated him. He would win it back at Unforgiven, but then he dropped it seven weeks later at Survivor Series to Big Show.

When he reclaimed the title in 2000, Hunter would go on a non-stop run at the top of the card for years. Still, it was clear by 1999 that WWE saw Triple H as a top guy, and he was able to rack up high profile victories against Mankind and Steve Austin, with his win over Austin at No Mercy being Stone Cold’s final PPV match for a year. Triple H accomplished so much more from 2000 onward, but he has 1999 to thank for giving him his start.
