Every WWE Cruiserweight Classic Wrestler - Where Are They Now?
15. Tajiri
Tournament result: Defeated in the second round by Gran Metalik.
What was he doing at the time?
Still mind-blowingly active in 2016, Tajiri was linked with Keiji Muto's WRESTLE-1 outfit at the onset of his sudden return to the market-leader, though the days of him working singles matches every night were long gone; instead, 'The Japanese Buzzsaw' was cast primarily in multi-man outings that were designed to accentuate his still mesmerising athleticism, while hiding his slowly degrading body. He could still perform, for example, his thing-of-beauty handspring back elbow, but he had certainly lost a step since the last time he'd been exposed to such a global audience.
What is he doing now?
At 55, Tajiri is still going strong, having amassed a legitimately impressive 600+ matches since his first match in the Cruiserweight Classic. That has included an all-too-brief second stint in WWE that ended when the company opted against using him because of his age, a one-off match for New Japan Pro-Wrestling as part of Hiroshi Tanahashi's retirement tour, and more championships than circa-2022 'Roman Reigns returns next week' graphics. Still so effortless is Tajiri, he could wake up tomorrow and make a cameo appearance for any of the major companies without looking too out of place.
