Women’s Royal Rumble 2021

Mickie James is a five-time WWE Women’s Champion and a certain candidate for the Hall of Fame. Her latest run with WWE began with a dream match taking on Asuka at NXT TakeOver: Toronto for the Women’s Championship. She transitioned to the main roster teaming with, and subsequently feuding against, Alexa Bliss. When this programme concluded, James took a back seat in the women’s division.

Despite ending her run amongst the melee of a multi-woman match, it is fitting that the iconic James concluded her in-ring tenure competing in one of WWE’s annual highlights. Mickie entered at #19 and it initially looked promising with James zeroing in on Charlotte Flair, telling her: “I’ve been waiting a long time for this, baby”. The two had a brief clash of chops and strikes, James sent Charlotte across the ring with a hurricanrana, but she was too strong to eliminate. James went her separate way, brawling with Naomi and Mandy Rose before getting lost in the mix.

When James landed on the apron, Lacey Evans took advantage sending her to the outside with a Woman’s Right - the match's 14th elimination. It was a great shame that the hinted at clash with Charlotte was never followed up on.
