Future World Champions Of 10 Wrestling Brands
4. Global Force Wrestling/Impact - Matt Sydal
The GFW/Impact merger is in full effect, and the brand is beginning to hone in on their cornerstone stars. The reformed Latin American Exchange; X-Division veterans Low Ki and Sonjay Dutt; promising new-comers Trevor Lee and Moose; and, as always with TNA, WWE alumni Lashley, ECIII and John Hennigan.
There is merit to building your main event around recognisable talent, even if it comes with risk (the saga of Alberto El Patron, for example). Promoting former WWE Superstars gets eyes on the product, and from that point it's up to everyone on the roster to keep them there. Where previous signings have come to hurt the company, Impact recently made a shrewd acquisition in Matt Sydal (Evan Bourne in WWE).
Sydal recently fell out of favour with New Japan due to some trouble with the law, freeing him up to find a new home. Jeff Jarrett came a-calling and now Sydal acts as another legitimate talent at the top of Impact's card.
Currently Sydal is booked for a number-one contender's match against former World Champion Lashley. Though he could have been right at home in the X-Division, Sydal's name value has elevated him. This, coupled with his in-ring ability, could make him the second ever Unified GFW World Heavyweight Champion.
