Another new year, another World Championship contest for Bill Goldberg.

While a slew of WWE legends were announced ahead of time for last night’s episode of Raw, one huge name who made their surprise return to WWE television was Goldberg. Not just did Da Man turn up on Raw, but the WCW icon challenged Drew McIntyre to a WWE Championship match at this month’s Royal Rumble PPV.

After the Scottish Psychopath successfully retained his prize against Keith Lee in the Raw main event, Goldberg made a shocking appearance to initially give McIntyre props for how he carries himself as WWE Champ and how he represents the company.

Things soon took a dramatic turn, though, when Bill accused Raw’s top star of lacking respect for the WWE legends, before then laying down a challenge for January 31’s Royal Rumble event.

This prompted McIntyre to say how fighting Goldberg would be like fighting his dad, which in turn prompted some shoving between the pair. The final shot of the broadcast was Goldberg pushing McIntyre to the mat, although later released footage showed the WWE Champion getting back to his feet and butting heads with the man he now seems set to face later this month.

Of course, previously there had been plentiful speculation that Goldberg would be returning to face WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 37. Whether that still happens, we’ll have to wait and see.

Could Goldberg steamroller through McIntyre at the Royal Rumble and battle Reigns at ‘Mania? That would be insane, but you can’t put anything past Vince McMahon’s company…
